Using his fiddle as a guide, and drawing upon the styles of Bluegrass, Celtic, Old-time and Jazz, George Jackson is just as at home playing a traditional Scottish strathspey or Monroe-style fiddle lick as he is playing his own innovative and creative compositions.

As the current Australian Bluegrass Fiddle Champion, the recipient of the 2012 Australian Youth Bluegrass Scholarship and winner of the 2012 Golden Fiddle for ‘Best Fiddler as a Soloist’, at only 23 years of age George Jackson isn’t doing too badly.

Originally from New Zealand and handed his first fiddle at the age of 4, George squeaked his way onstage at age 9 to join his parents and brother to form the family band Fiddlesticks.

Since then, George has gone on to tour extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand, with bands ‘Twisted Oak’ and ‘The Company’ as well as performing for acts such as The Pigs, The Roys, Bluegrass Parkway and ‘The Australian Bluegrass All Stars’.

In 2011 George recorded his self-titled album of all original compositions with local and international musicians. It explores many different aspects of his playing and musical influences, from celtic inspired tunes, through bluegrass and solo fiddle to string ensembles.

A connoisseur of bad jokes, a lover of dark chocolate and a database of obscure fiddle tunes, George is an engaging performer with an undeniable love for the music he plays.
